Glisson Families in Florida-

Philip B. Gleason b. 1789 d.aft 1860 wife Edy b.1814 d.1850-60 of Walton Co. FL formerly from VA & or
GA. He was the first to appear in Florida
records. His family was listed in 1840-50-60 Walton Co. FL.
However he may have been from the Gleason family
and not the Glisson family. He was born about 1789
and probably died 1860-70. His descendants
seemed to have disappeared from the area. There was a Philip
Geeson in the 1805 Clark Co. GA land lotteries.
He may have been related to the James Glosson or Glisson
who married Jenny Shaw 7 Sep 1815 in Clark Co.
GA. Also Hugh Glosson was listed in 1805 Land Lottery of Georgia from Clarke
Co. This may or may not of been the same Philip B. Gleason
(Geeson-Glisson). Also Matthew Glisson
lived 2 houses away from him in 1860 Walton Co. FL. Matthew was Nathan Matthew
Glisson one of the orphans of James
Glisson of Burke Co. GA. Barsheba Glisson Wilkins family also live close to
where he had lived in 1870. She was a
sister to Matthew above. Thus I listed
Philip B. Gleason's family for clarification.
James Glisson b. bef 1770 d. 1818-20 of Burke Co. GA
probably son of Abraham or maybe Frederick. He was listed in Burke Co. GA 1797-1810 land deeds. Listed in 1805 land
Lottery in which land in Early Co. GA was
awarded. It later went to his orphans Mary, Nathan Matthew, Amos, Martha, and
Barsheba. Nathan Matthew & Barsheba
wound up in Henry Co. Alabama and in Walton & Holmes Co. FL. Martha m. John
Wilkins Jr. listed in 1840 Henry Co. AL census.I do not what happened to the
others. James could have been related to Philip
B. above? Or it was just coincidental
that Nathan Matthew & Barsheba Glisson Wilkins lived so close to Philip B.
Gleason above. Nathan
Matthew Glisson listed in 1840 Henry Co. AL, 1850 in Holmes Co. FL, 1860 Walton
Co. FL, back in Henry Co. AL 1860-1868, 1870 & 1880 census in Tyler Co.
TX. Barsheba lived in 1870 Walton
Co. FL.
John Glisson b.1834 daft 1910 wife Elizabeth b.1834 d.aft 1910 of Lafayette Co. FL formerly GA.
Parents
unknown but seems to be most likely connected to
the Burke Co. groups. Possibly son of Dennis &
Lucretia, or Evan or a brother to Rowan, William,
Henry, James or Thadeus? He does not seem to be closely
related to the other Glissons in Florida. He was
listed in 1860-1870-1880-1900-1910 census in Lafayette Co.
FL. Most of his descendants seemed to have
stayed in Lafayette Co. FL area.

Futch of Alachua & Putnam Co. Florida
formerly from Lowndes & Tattnall Co. GA. He was
listed in 1830 Lowndes Co. & 1840 in
Tattnall Co. GA. Listed in 1850 Alachua Co. & in 1860 Putnam Co. FL.
Probably son of Joseph Glisson & Martha
Bowen Glisson of Bulloch & Tattnall Co. GA. Bryant was born abt 1814 in GA
& died 1860-70 in Putnam Co. FL. He
married 1st on 10 Jan 1830 in Irwin Co. GA to Nancy Jernigan and
apparently divorced her by . He married 2nd
to Mrs. Elizabeth Sweat date unknown. She was the
daughter of Solomon & Elizabeth Futch. She
had previously married William F. Sweat on 16 May 1830. In the
1840 census Bryant listed 3m5-10 and 2munder 5
besides himself and wife. These males were either his sons
from 1st marriage or Elizabeth's sons
from 1st marriage or were not sons of either one. Four of them not
listed
in 1850 census with him. However one could have
been Dennis W. who was definitely a son of Bryant &
Elizabeth together. I believe the other 4 were
his sons. The 1849 indenture in Alachua Co. FL makes it a point
to legally establish Dennis W. as his legal son
for some reason. If he had no other children that would not
have been necessary. Another explanation of this
indenture could be because Dennis W. may of been born
before Bryant & Elizabeth married. Most of
the descendants of this family wound up in Putnam, Clay, St.
Johns and Bradford Co. FL. Also Bryant's
family and widow Sarah's family seemed to intertwined in GA and in FL.
Widow Sarah Glisson b.1795 d.aft 1880 wife of ? Glisson b.1792
d.bef 1840. Of Bradford & Putnam Co. FL
formerly of Bryan & Tattnall Co. GA. Her
husband died prior to 1840 and was probably a son of Joseph Glisson & Martha Bowen Glisson of Bulloch
& Tattnall Co. GA. Sarah appeared as a widow in 1840-50 census in
Bryan Co. GA and in 1860-70 lived with son
Alexander in Tattnall Co. GA and in 1880 with son Alexander in
Bradford Co. FL. Her sons William R. & James
W. came to FL in 1860 & 1870. Sarah's family & Bryant W.
family above lived in close vicinity in FL thus
appear to be closely related. Most of the Descendants of this
family wound up in Bradford & Putnam Co. FL.
Riley Glisson b.1800 d.1847-49 wife Mary b.1805 d.1870-80. Riley listed in 1830 census in Early Co.
GA.
Could not find him in 1840 census. His
widow Mary listed in 1850 Decatur Co. GA, 1860 in Gadsen Co. FL,
1870 in Wakula Co. FL. Riley a definite son of
Joseph Glisson & Martha Bowen Glisson of Bulloch & Tattnall Co. GA.
Seems to be closely related to Wiley
Glisson below. Their children seemed to move and forth from Decatur Co. GA and
FL. Most of the descendants of this family wound up in Gadsen & Jackson Co.
FL and Decatur Co. GA. Riley & Wiley were either brothers or 1st
cousins?
Henry Elisha Glisson b.1830-35 m.1853
to 1st wife Mary Ham 2nd wife Ann? There were 2 Henry
Glissons
about same age in Jackson Co. FL one married
Mary Ham the other married Elizabeth Shiver at 1st glance
they seem to be same person but there were 2
different Henrys in Civil War. In 1850 Census this Henry was
listed as single living with Anderson Sneed 2
houses away from ex-wife Mary Ham and dau Malissa Glisson.
In 1860 Elisha Glisson wife Ann had dau Malissa
living with them as did Mary Ham. Thus the assumption is
that this Henry was Henry Elisha Glisson. Quite
often a person would be listed in 2 households, thus dau Malissa listed with
fathers family and mothers family. Henry Elisha
Glisson is included in a sketch but not linked to a larger family. It appears
that he divorced or left his 1st wife
Mary Ham according to Census records. Could he possibly be Elisha son of Wiley
Glisson & Tersa Yates and dates in
census are wrong? Is he the one in Civil War record who later died in NJ? If so
then it would appear that for some reason
he also left his 2nd wife Ann and his children back in Jackson Co.
FL. The Henry who married Elizabeth
Shiver is the one listed as deserted in Civil War record. Her full name then
being Margaret Elizabeth Shiver and she
remarried ? Miller after Henry's death? There are a lot of questions on these 2 Henry's. Also Elisha could be a separate
person and not Henry. I put Henry wife Elizabeth Shiver as a son of Riley & Mary Glisson. This could be
wrong and Henry wife Mary Ham could be son of
Riley & Mary
Glisson. More info is needed on these 2 Henry's and Elisha Glisson. They could
pertain to 3
people, 2 people
or even 1 person? One other problem is
that Elisha was listed in the 1860 census as being
black but not in the others.
Wiley Glisson b.1818 d.1887 wife
Tersa Yates b.1822 d.1870-80. Parents unknown but seem to be closely
related to Riley above. Wiley not found in 1850
census, was in Gadsen Co. FL 1860 2 houses from Riley's
family. He was listed in 1870-80 in Decatur Co.
GA. Several of his family seemed also to move back and forth
from Decatur Co. GA to FL. Most of his
descendants wound up in Decatur Co. GA and Jackson, Gadsen,
Calhoun Co. FL. A descendant of Wiley's, George
Wiley (Bill) Glisson has supplied me with a lot of info on
the Florida & Georgia Glisson families in
general. He also supplied me with a lot of the references for FL &
GA.
A few other Glissons came to Florida later
from different states but not enough info on them is available to
put them in family groups.
